Afflicted with cerebral palsy and burdened with continual pain, Porter was determined not to live on government disability and went on to become Watkins’s top-grossing salesman in Portland, the Northwest, and the U.S. Mr. Porter was profiled in a piece on 20/20 and his amazing story is the basis for a made for T.V. movie starring William H. Macy that aired July 14th on TNT."

I went to lower Manhattan last fall, when the junkyard still stood seven stories high, the now-famous scorched girders grasping for the sky. Gray snow dusted the bank signs. National Guardsmen and cops kept people moving. Nobody spoke much. Workers had spray-painted WEAR YOUR BREATHING MASKS! on one of the buildings abandoned nearby.
