ARTICLE... by Cathy Young Where the Boys Are Just a few years ago, of course, girls were the ones whose victimization by sexist schools and a male-dominated society was proclaimed on the front pages of newspapers and lamented in editorials, thanks largely to widely publicized reports released by the AAUW in the early 1990s. It was probably only a matter of time before somebody asked, "But what about boys?" By the end of the decade, headlines like "How Boys Lost Out to Girl Power" began to crop up in the media, and boys-in-crisis books began to hit the shelves. Go to Article
THOUGHTS... monthly column by Larry Pesavento The Elderless Society Our society is upside down. It used to be that elders were reverenced and young men were tolerated. Now, we put up with the elderly and reverence the young. We dream of recapturing our youth, while fearing old age. We look with envy on the fame and status, to say nothing of the bank accounts, of young athletes or dot com entrepeneurs. We yearn to have their talent or wisdom. We allow them to define the highest values of our culture, not by word but by example. Liking to be like Mike has to do with young Michael Jordan, not the archangel. Go to Article

Summing Up... Very Prematurely I hope I suppose what has brought this all up is the sudden onset of health issues, which, if ignored, could be life threatening. For that matter, age itself is life threatening so I guess I'm also thinking about the real finiteness of my time.

Why Men's Groups? I was always very suspicious of "men’s groups". I thought I had evolved beyond a need for sharing with others. About 9 years ago, while driving, I was listening to the audio book of "Iron John" by Robert Bly, about issues
of men maturing. I suddenly found tears running down my face but at that time had no idea why. Iron John is about men’s rites of passage. Bly outlines an idea about men gathering together to support each other.
