FLYBOYS:
A True Story of Courage

Flyboys is the true story of young American airmen
who were shot down over Chichi Jima. Eight of these young men were
captured by Japanese troops and taken prisoner. Another was rescued
by an American submarine and went on to become president. The
reality of what happened to the eight prisoners has remained a
secret for almost 60 years. After the war, the American and Japanese
governments conspired to cover up the shocking truth. Not even the
families of the airmen were informed what had happened to their
sons. It has remained a mystery—until now. Critics called James
Bradley's last book "the best book on battle ever written." Flyboys
is even better: more ambitious, more powerful, and more moving. On
the island of Chichi Jima those young men would face the ultimate
test. Their story—a tale of courage and daring, of war and of death,
of men and of hope—will make you proud, and it will break your
heart.

The e-mail was from Iris Chang, author of the
groundbreaking bestseller "The Rape of Nanking." Iris and I had
developed a professional relationship after the publication of my
first book, "Flags of Our Fathers." In her e-mail, Iris suggested I
contact a man named Bill Doran in Iowa. She said Bill had some
"interesting" information.

TOWARD MANHOOD...
A book in progress
by Larry Pesavento
A Journey to the Wilderness of the Soul
Author
and therapist Larry Pesavento of CHRISTOS Men's Center invites you
to join in the process of critiquing this book prior to it's
publication. MENSIGHT will publish a chapter each month and we would
like for you to submit suggestions and discuss your opinions on our
Men's Issues Forum.
From chapter
2...
The problem of achieving manhood in any culture always leads to the
problem of pain. The healthy initiatory journey of manhood starts
with the conscious choice to face the emotional pain in our lives,
the inner pain that comes with finding one's own unique mission. The
archetypal experience of initiation gives a man the motivation to
face that pain, not bury it, once he understands that mission.

Fathers and Sons
As a personal coach for men and the publisher of
a
newsletter,
I’m sometimes blessed with personal
stories from readers
that touch my heart. This
story sent in from a
father helped me to remember
why I’m doing what I
do. I’d like to share it with
you:
“As a
father of two teens, I've enjoyed your
insight
on fatherhood. I was raised in a loving
family
environment, but just as you indicated, my
father
was the primary breadwinner and the "backbone"
of the family, not an emotional type. As a child, I never saw
him cry or appear weak,
nor did he ever
utter the words "I love you". It
was just not in his
vocabulary, though I never
doubted his love for
any of us.

Nice Hat!
I was walking through Walmart and saw
the green and gold T-shirt. I altered my path somewhat, "Nice
shirt." I said to the guy in passing. "Nice hat!" he responded
remarking on what I was sporting at the time.

JEFF'S LIFE... monthly
column by Jeff Stimpson
Raising Toast
She (Toast) eats peas and spaghetti, and
claws into plastic bags of barley in the pantry. When you come out
of the bathroom, she's always waiting by the door; she likes to
watch the water twirl down the bowl, from which she then drinks. The
other night she hopped into a bath with the boys, then leaped back
out and stalked away, shaking her hind legs as if it had all been
someone else's fault.

THE NEW INTIMACY...
monthly column by
Judith Sherven, Ph.D. and James Sniechowski, Ph.D.
The Soul of Love
As a married couple of sixteen years we still have regular, long
and intimate conversations, scheduled or spontaneous, during which
we listen not just to ourselves and each other but to what is alive
between us. We explore and witness that which make us different from
each other, the particularities that makes us each who we really
are, and marvel at how two distinct points of view co-create a
third, the unity that is our
relationship.
